Hearts Entangled

Time, it seems, stands between us and the infinite (we are not born with a sense of time, it is something we learn) and as Virginia Woolf observed, there is an "extraordinary discrepancy between time on the clock and time in the mind." There can also be an extraordinary discrepancy between an experience, or a moment observed and its redescription. My MA has been an opportunity to further the translations of my directly observed drawings of a houseplant, to re-story their history, and to begin to explore the connections between words, art and meaning that connect and divide us.

As Jeanette Winterson perceptively commented, creative work is a 'boxing match with time', it 'bridges time because the energy of art is not time-bound. If it were, we should have no interest in the art of the past, except as history or documentary. But our interest in art is our interest in ourselves both now and always. Here and forever.'
